ICC Prosecutor issues statement on violence in DRC


On 20 October 2016, ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda issued a statement concerning the recent violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  The statement the Office of the Prosecutor’s work regarding the country since 2004 which has resulted in the issuance of six   arrest warrants.  The Prosecutor raised concerns about recent violence in the DRC, particularly in Kinshasa in September 2016, and called for restraint from committing any acts of criminal violence to individuals or property and reminded all parties that the OTP will not hesitate to take appropriate steps towards justice against anyone who “commits, orders, incites, encourages, or contributes in any other way to the commission of crimes under the  jurisdiction of the ICC.” Referencing a previous statement on 23 September, the Prosecutor noted that the OTP has sent a delegation to the DRC to reiterate the Prosecution calls for restraint.
