threat to Saimon halder11112017_0001Those who have been together with us throughout our relatively short journey so far will be aware that ICRF has been plagued with bouts of misfortune recently. Though we have nevertheless stood united and strong against such challenges and adversities, it is always deflating to learn about the perils that our members, contributors, and loyal supporters are subjected to. Such is the case Mr. Simon Halder, father of Roosevelt Halder, one of our most respected colleague and member of the Public Relations team here at the ICRF. Roosevelt’s father Mr. Simon Halder, is a respectable, hardworking individual and a former priest at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Mongla, Bangladesh. He has received death threats from an extremist group Islami Khelafot Mujahidin (IKMB) Bangladesh on 27/06/2016, who are suspected to have extremist ties or are religious fundamentalists.
Mr. Simon Halder is yet another victim in what can only be described as the systematic persecution of minorities in Bangladesh. Indeed alongside, the growing influence of militancy, communalism, it is one of the most worrying issues which continues to pile misery on what is an already ailing nation currently.
The full details of the incident are sensitive and we decided not to probe our colleague any further in these difficult times. We just wish to tell him that we are here by his side and will support him in any way we can.
However, we would like to take this opportunity and vehemently express our distaste at this incident. Meanwhile, our thought goes with Mr. Roosevelt Halder and his family in this situation. We can only pray and hope that they can find their way to safety and peace.
